India’s mental health crisis

India is one of the countries where mental health is still considered a taboo. People usually don’t talk about such issues and consider them pretty much non existent. Some shocking facts surrounding mental healthπŸ‘‡

πŸ‘‰ About 800,000 people die by suicide worldwide every year. 1,39,123 Indians died by suicide in 2019 and the national suicide rate was 10.4 (calculated per lakh of population).

πŸ‘‰ Suicide is the third leading cause of death for teenagers around the globe.

πŸ‘‰ As many as 19 students have committed suicide in India’s coaching capital, Kota, this year.

What are we waiting for? For more deaths? We as a society need to recognize mental health as also an essential part of our life as it is a major component in one’s success. There’s a lot of stigma regarding this issue. Government can reduce the number of deaths by other causes by capital and proper planning but suicides cannot be controlled by mere capital. We need to change our mindset as a society.

If your friend or family member informs you that they are feeling depressed or suicidal, encourage them to see a psychologist and not to take this condition lightly. There are many websites where people can book sessions with psychologist. One of them is manastha.

Thank you.

“A Gloomy Sunny Sunset”

Leafs flickered.
The little plants on my terrace
warned.
A cloudy shade appeared
But the sky was bright blue
Ahh! It was my mind so grey
As thoughts turned monsters
And I was the prey.

I was all alone
Amidst the cold summer breeze
The wind brought words
Few whispered
And others swift past the ears
Ma often said about good devils
My thoughts were one of them
Good enough not to kill
But laugh at my pain.

As a child I often dreamt about growing up
Now I dream back my old dreams
I feel pity
Or am I proud?

The cloud almost covered every single ray
Coming to my mind.
But the sky is still blue and bright outside
I have dreamt about stories coming true
About death becoming a lie
I knew who will be I now
I know who I was then
Someone who would love the rain
Ahh! The clouds started thundering now

I think about existence
Am I where should I be?
How did the time knows that well enough
How he tells my mom about me getting an
uncomfortable cough.
Why did I end up living here?
Or being like this.
I have always loved the way I am
But still raising questions to this silly game
I wondered about beings stuffed up
Under a common name

Was everything a lie..?
Ahh! I came back to my terrace again
Standing amidst those plants
Strong winds started blowing
The sky inside was totally
dark with heavy clouds..

The sky still stood blue and bright
With the soil getting enough sunlight..

The sun was about to set
My mind couldn’t witness the end
As it was dark preparing for a storm
The yellow light did touch my eyes
But the clouds were heavier with unfaithful lies

The bright daylight brushed past my cheeks
The wind inside swirled harder each time
My hair was calm
My mind full of storm
The cells ruptured
The hairs stood still again
And then when anger was in vain
Drops
Dripped
Down
My yellow lit up cheeks
The clouds turned heavier
And tried to pour everything down
Just like a faithful servant who would
die for his master
The clouds faded up much faster
My face wet
Shining in the red light

Ahh! What a thunderstorm it turned out
How lovely the weather was …
The cold wind now swirled my hairs
It went in as well since rainwater started drying
Flying with the strong wind
that now started outside
my mind.

Me
My hairs
My eyelashes
The sun
Everything settled down together
Down to the ground
Some end up heavier
Others much more lighter….

PARC , Steve Jobs and Bill Gates

Palo Alto Research Centre (PARC) was established by Xerox , the photocopying giant , for their scientist to come up with new and innovative ideas for the company to compete with the rising tech ventures and in the paperless new generation.

It was founded in 1969 by Jacob E , Xerox corporation’s chief scientist and he was given complete freedom with 58 best computer scientists of the world to do anything they want. The smartest people in the world working together with complete freedom resulted in revolutionary innovations

Among all the great inventions by Xerox engineers , three were the future of computer industry.

Mouse : The idea of a pointer to the informations on the computer was developed at PARC in the year 1975 a decade before when it was launched commercially by Apple

Ethernet : They were able to connect over a 100 Xerox Alto computers wirelessly which formed the basis of internet that we use today

Graphical User Interface: Computers at that time had a very complex functioning. Xerox Alto was the first computer to use graphics to make it usable for commoners .The GUI further formed the basis of Apple’s Macintosh and Windows

But unfortunately the mangement team of Xerox were not interested in anything but photo copying technology and denied commercial introduction of the Xerox Alto.

But PARC became so famous in Silicon Valley that Steve Jobs visited them in 1979 and within a few hours asked his team of engineers to understand their user interface . The scientists at PARC frustated by the ignorance of Xerox mangement gave them a demo. In just 10 minutes Steve understood that this was the future and in couple of years launched Machintosh , a better but copied version of Xerox computers.

Bill Gates copied from Machintosh and launched Windows which became the primary hit of the company making Gates a billionaire.

Finally Steve Jobs got the credit and Bill Gates got money , but the real inventors of the computers that we use today got nothing.

Bullet baba

‘Bullet Baba’ is a temple located near Jodhpur in Rajasthan. It is devoted to a 350cc Royal Enfield ‘deity’. This temple is known as the Bullet Baba’s temple and is dedicated to a person, Om Banna, who died in an accident 20 years ago while driving his ‘bullet’.

As indicated by individuals who come here to love the odd god, when Om’s bike was taken to the neighborhood police headquarters after the mishap, it continued vanishing from the police headquarters just to be found at another site each time. The report about this supernatural occurrence spread like quickly and the bicycle is presently the icon in the temple.

Here, the contribution to Om Banna is beer, of the ‘Shot’ brand. Individuals say that in case you are going through the Pali-Jodhpur roadway without stopping and worshiping the Bullet Baba, you probably won’t arrive at your objective with all your body parts flawless. The vehicles cruising by, forgoes sounding, as a contribution to the ‘baba’.
